Music legend Morrissey is coming to Queensland in December, and fans are snapping up the pre-sale tickets after waiting 11 years for a return visit.

Queensland fans will be relieved at his return, after Morrissey bypassed Brisbane on his 2016 tour. He last played in Brisbane in 2012 at the Convention Centre. This time, the tour will visit Fortitude Valley Music Hall.

On his official Facebook page, Morrissey said: “SO BONA TO VADA! The world tour continues onward. Asia and Australia and New Zealand – 40 YEARS OF MORRISSEY is headed your way. Pre-sale and on-sale dates and times are below. See you soon.”

Steven Patrick Morrissey was born in 1959 in Lancashire, England. His parents, Elizabeth (née Dwyer) and Peter Morrissey, were Irish Catholics who had emigrated to Manchester from Dublin with his only sibling, elder sister Jacqueline, a year before his birth.

He told The Irish Times that the title of his 2004 hit song “Irish Blood, English Heart” refers to “the components that make up my tubby little body.” The song discusses Morrissey’s identity as the son of Irish immigrants growing up in Thatcher-era England, and explores the themes of contention between the two nations. It became his highest-charting single in the United Kingdom, reaching number three. It also reached the top 20 in Ireland.

Morrissey’s influence and music legacy are irrefutable. He has released thirteen solo studio albums, achieved a string of No.1 records, and been presented with an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music.

As lead singer of The Smiths, he marked forever the history of music with only four albums. As a soloist he has consolidated a sound that still reverberates today with his forthcoming album Without Music The World Dies, an explicit declaration of love for music, which has made him one of the most acclaimed voices of the last four decades.

When the debut single from The Smiths, Hand In Glove, first emerged 40 years ago, the musical landscape was forever changed and launched a rich catalogue of songs that includes anthems such as This Charming Man, How Soon Is Now?, There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, Suedehead, Everyday Is Like Sunday, Irish Blood, English Heart, First of the Gang to Die, and many, many more.
