This year’s Annual Irish Community November Remembrance Mass on the Gold Coast will take place on Sunday 8 November at 11am in St Joseph the Worker Church, Labrador.
The address is 44 Imperial Parade, Labrador QLD 4215.
All are welcome to join this opportunity to remember and pray for our deceased family members and friends.
November has long been a special month of remembrance in the Irish Catholic tradition, when families and parishes pray especially for those who have died. Beginning with All Saints’ Day on 1 November and All Souls’ Day on 2 November, churches often hold special Masses of Remembrance, with parishioners submitting the names of deceased relatives to be included in prayers throughout the month.
The tradition travelled with Irish emigrants and is now observed in Catholic communities around the world. In Ireland, Australia, the United States and elsewhere, November Masses may be accompanied by blessings of graves, candles, Books of Remembrance, remembrance trees and special services for families who have lost loved ones.
At its heart is the Catholic belief that remembering the dead is not simply about looking back, but praying for them and holding on to the hope of resurrection and eternal life.
