The Queensland Irish Choir is inviting lovers of Celtic music to shake off Brisbane’s winter chill when it presents its much-anticipated Celtic Winter Concert on Saturday, 25 July, from 2pm to 4pm at The Hills Church, Everton Hills.

The annual concert has become a favourite on the Queensland Irish community calendar, taking audiences on a musical journey through the Celtic nations with a programme of stirring anthems, moving ballads and timeless love songs.

Speaking to the Queensland Irish Association Newsletter, choir member Terence O’Connor said this year’s performance promises to warm both hearts and spirits.

“It is said that July is the coldest month in Brisbane. On 25 July, the Queensland Irish Choir will perform its Celtic Winter Concert at Everton Hills, and it will warm the cockles of your heart!” he said.

“It is our tradition that the Winter Concert takes the audience on a musical excursion throughout the Celtic world and this year is no exception. Indeed, the songs that will accompany that journey are exceptional!”

The programme spans the rich musical traditions of Ireland, Scotland and Cornwall, with powerful performances of Highland Cathedral and Cornwall My Home, alongside nostalgic favourites including Song for the Mira and Valley of Strathmore.

Romantic classics Fields of Gold, made famous by Eva Cassidy, and the beloved Irish standard Raglan Road are also featured, while The Boys from Wexford, Catalpa, and Last House on Our Street reflect on significant and often sombre chapters in Irish history.

Adding further variety to the afternoon, several members of the choir will perform solo pieces, showcasing the talent and versatility within the ensemble.

O’Connor believes the mix of traditional and contemporary Celtic music will offer something for everyone.

“The Concert will feature solos by our own choristers which will offer variety and musical depth to the concert experience. It is a concert not to be missed.”

The concert will be held at The Hills Church, 79 Queens Road, Everton Hills, on Saturday, 25 July, from 2pm to 4pm.
