Happy 50th anniversary in 2023 to Queensland Gaelic Football and Hurling Association.

The State Football Finals are on tomorrow, Saturday, July 29th, and everyone is welcome at 318 Bowhill Road, Willawong. At 2pm you can catch Masters Gaelic in action. At 3.30pm it’s the Ladies Finals with Easts Celts GFC vs Harps GFC. Next up, at 5.30pm it’s the Men’s Finals with Easts Celts vs Harps. There will also be entertainment by the brilliant Queensland Irish Association Pipe Band and Steve Byrne.

It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since we published a supplement celebrating their 40th anniversary. You’ll find the whole history of how the club was founded in there, thanks primarily to the legend himself, “Mr Irish” Seamus Sullivan, who is still out there working hard every day, long after his retirement.

And there have been many ups and downs at Willawong over the last decade, which have been documented on Irish Queenslander, its not long since we were out there mopping up after yet another flood. It’s all back in action and looking as good as ever, thanks to a team of volunteers, many being the same familiar faces we see at Willawong all the time, quietly helping out year after year. Your efforts are noticed and appreciated and while you never look for thanks or glory, you deserve it.

Well done to everyone at Queensland Gaelic Football and Hurling Association and here’s to the next 50 years!
